Technology and the Changing Nature of Work: What, if Anything, is Actually Changing?
The unprecedented development and use of “AI” and “algorithms” in organizations has drawn attention from seemingly every corner. Past scholarship has developed several useful theoretical lenses to understand how technologies, from computers and the Internet to robotics and automation, have impacted the ways in which we organize, communicate, and work.
This begs the question:
- What, if anything, is actually changing with emerging technologies that are entering modern-day workplaces?
- And how do these changes impact our theoretical understanding of the relationship between technology, work, and organizations?
Through presentations from five scholars, combined with an interactive panel discussion, and research roundtables where scholars can receive feedback on ongoing research projects on technology and work, we seek to advance scholarship in this important area while simultaneously building a community.Organizer
